This Mother’s Day, celebrate the love and legacy of mothers by investing in a student’s future. Your gift provides financial assistance to undergraduates in the University of the Philippines who are facing financial hardship — a lasting tribute to the women who shaped our lives.

ALAY KAY INAY (Dedication to mother) is a special fundraiser which runs from May 1 to May 11, culminating on Mother’s Day.

GOAL: $1,100.00

WHY YOUR GIFT MATTERS

The University of the Philippines (UP), the nation's premier public university, serves over 60,000 students (undergraduate and graduate) across its campuses. As a state university, UP relies heavily on government funding, making it vulnerable to shifting political priorities and budget constraints, and to economic downturns.

Yet, fewer than 500 students receive adequate scholarship support — a stark contrast to the vast number in need. With the average annual household income in the Philippines at ₱353,230 (2023 figure), many students face significant financial hardship. This means that even the most talented and driven individuals often struggle to stay enrolled or are forced to drop out entirely.

Your support helps change that. Through the UP Alumni Association in America (UPAAA), generous donors like you provide scholarships and emergency aid, helping undergraduates overcome barriers, stay in school, and eventually uplift not just themselves, but their families and communities.

WHAT YOUR GIFT CAN DO

From a UPAAA stipend Scholarship grantee enrolled

 in BS Computer Science

"Ang scholarship na ito ay nagbukas ng opportunity para makapag-aral ako sa UP at matugunan ko ang mga pangangailangan para makapagtapos sa pag-aaral.  Talagang malaking tulong sa monthly expenses ko at ang natitira naman ay para sa food, transportation and other expenses like for medicines when I get sick.  This grant is truly life-changing."

From a freshman enrolled in UP Manila, granted a stipend Scholarship

donated by two UP alumni

"The stipend was crucial to my adjustment because some of my stress with finances was relieved which has allowed me to focus on other aspects of my life like health. I have been able to incorporate more protein in my diet.

Although small, my family's income is enough for our expenses like utilities and food. However, I still try my best to not ask from them. Instead, I budget my stipend for my weekly expenses. At least, in this way, I lessen their financial burden, especially that they are near retirement age...Right now, I am foreseeing a few problems as the school year ends. One, the sudden increase in transportation fares for the LRT (Light Rail Transit), Move It (motorcycle taxi), and possibly jeepneys. This might affect my budget for food and school projects."

From the donor of the Professor Beatriz A. Soriano Stipend Scholarship

in UP Diliman

"We established this scholarship in honor of my mother, a devoted educator who dedicated her life to her family and her students. A tireless worker, she made countless sacrifices and went through numerous hardships. As a teacher, she was beloved by many, with an untold number of students who fondly remember her as the teacher who made math both understandable and enjoyable. Her legacy lives on in every student she inspired.  We are what we are today because of her.

We hope her legacy will always be remembered."
